Multi Hull Regatta

Regattas & Races

CLUB REGATTAS

The now famous Memorial Day Regatta was first held in 1945 with some 23 boats participating. It has since grown to as many as 150 boats with competitors from clubs from all over the West Coast. The Harvest Regatta in September draws up to 100 boats each year.

CLASS AND NATIONAL REGATTAS
In recent years EYC has hosted the National Championships for the Coronado 15, Daysailer, Lido 14, Santana 20 and Thistle, classes. It has also hosted the Laser North Americans, as well as many District and West Coast Championships. In National Competition, EYC has hosted the Mallory Cup Eliminations.

SERIES RACES
EYC participates in and/or provides logistical support for several seasonal Racing Series. In reverse chronological order, these are the Thursday Evening Multifleet Races, the Wednesday Evening Dinghy Races and the Tuesday Evening Beer-Can Races.

THURSDAY MULTIFLEET RACING SERIES
The format for the Thursday Series Races is a single race on a one-mile Olympic circle with separate starts for each of five fleets The fleets, in order of start, are Portsmouth Handicap, MultiHull, Santana 20, PHRF and Wavelength 24. For scoring purposes, the PHRF fleet is divided into two subFleets (PHRF A & B).

The Series is divided into four, approximately equal parts: Spring, Summer, Fall and Novice. The Spring, Summer and Fall follow in normal sequence. The Novice Races are interspersed so that one out of every four races is a Novice Race.

The Thursday Series is administered and managed by the EYC and TYC Joint Race Committee ( JRC). See the JRC Section below for more details.

WEDNESDAY DINGHY RACING SERIES
The Dinghy Races consist of multiple short races (~15 min / race) on courses set between EYC and the Dam. The normal participants are Lido 14s and Lasers, but any dinghy sailors are welcome to join the fun.

The Lido 14 Fleet administers the racing, and fleet members, Laser sailors or friends serve on Race Committee. The Race Calendar, RC Duty Roster and Scores may be found on the Lido 14 Fleet 81 Web Site.

TUESDAY BEER-CAN RACING SERIES
The Beer-Can Racing format is to start near the EYC Tower, sail around the Olympic Circle until a sound signal is given, and then retrace the outbound course. Ideally (if no one sandbags and wind conditions cooperate) all participants meet at the starting/finish line. There is no scoring and minimal rules.

THE JRC
The Joint Racing Committee ( JRC)  is a body with equal representation from  EYC and her sister club the Triton Yacht Club ( TYC). The purpose of the JRC is to coordinante and manage racing activities by EYC and TYC on Fern Ridge Lake. These activities include the Thursday Night Fleet-Racing Series, Club Regattas,Championship Regattas, etc.. The Representatives to the JRC are the Commodore, the Race Chair and one appointed representative from each Club.

In 2009, the JRC has established the JRC Web Site as a common repository for Race Information. At this point, most of the material on the site is directed at the Thursday Series. It includes the RC Duty Roster, the Sailing Instructions, and the Racing Results including both Raw Finishes and Calculated Scores.

One exception to the Thursday limitation is the Race Calendar which provides a comprehensive coverage of Sailing Events both on and beyond Fern Ridge.

NOTICE: By request from the JRC, the EYC Website will not provide direct links to individual JRC files. The global link to the JRC Site will be provided as needed. The EYC Site will continue to support Regattas that are not covered by the JRC.

Need a crew member? Do you want to crew but don't have a boat? Head over to the EYC Crew Board and post your notice on the wall. No reason to miss a chance to get on the water!
