From the Club Manager November 2020

This has been an interesting year, hasn't it? The "year from heck" I call it. Almost everything got cancelled and while many people got out in boats in spite of the low water level and the virus, it took considerable determination.

We are beginning to plan for 2021 with the idea that things will go back to normal in the coming months, that we will be able to be a "social club" with lots of great "social events," and that 2021 will be the best year ever.

The first task is to construct our calendar. Anyone with input on that should contact me really soon. Next up on the 2021 calendar is the first Work Party of the year on January 23 and the next General Membership Meeting on January 30 (probably on Zoom). I should add that the Port Commission has not only done a ton of work this last year, but they have some terrific projects coming up. If you want to get the invite to work on some of those, please let Marji Clune know.

I would like to add that all boats and trailers out there on the grounds have to have identification. If your boat is large enough to require OR numbers, then we require those. Your name also needs to be on the trailer along with the OR numbers. This is helpful for billing as well as notifying you if necessary. If you bring a boat out that we don't know, please let Port Captain Gordon Mattatall know. I know a couple of you have been pleased to beat the system once or twice, but EYC works like a co-op and you are just cheating your friends.

The fiscal year is now over (as of Halloween). EYC bills for dues and travel trailers on the first day of the new fiscal year, so those bills all went out last week. If you did not get one, let me know and we will try to resend. Winter storage bills will go out the first of December. In the first week after bills went out, over 30 members had paid their dues for 2021. Thank you!

Gary Powell is heading up a small committee to raise money for a new small powerboat that will be used for coaches in our Youth Sailing Program. Donations can be made through the Oregon Youth Sailing Foundation and are eligible for tax deductions. You can contact Gary by email if you have any questions.

If you have read this far in my column it means you are qualified to volunteer for one of the committee positions that we still have open for 2021. Please contact our new Commodore Richard Johnson with your willing enthusiasm.

One last thing to note, there will not be an EYC Bulletin in December, though Monday emails will continue through the end of the year. The EYC staff and board wish you all wonderful and safe holidays.
