Club Manager October 2021

Fall is certainly here. I would like to take a moment to encourage everyone to wander out to the club at times this winter. It is a great place for bird watching. Herons and Egrets are common and Bald Eagles are not uncommon. And if you want to do some work party while the lake is empty, please contact Marji Clune or Gary Powell. The requirement is 16 hours by August first. And there is a Work Party on October 23 at 9am.
I would like to repeat Port Captain Gordon Mattatall's moorage and storage admonishments. He will inspect for winter storage on November first and will bill everyone who is on the grounds at that moment. And we require that all boats and trailers be labelled so that this is possible. And we would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to maintain the ground under your boat and trailer, both summer and winter.
We do not put out a Bulletin in December. But we will continue to send other things.
I should note that our fiscal year runs from November 1 to October 31. And thus we bill for dues on November 1, or very shortly thereafter. If you don't get a bill you might call me and ask why.
Our Annual Meeting is on October 30 at 7pm. And it will be using Zoom. We did it last year and it worked fine. We will be voting in a new Board member and some new positions so that might be fun. I am very excited about the nominee that the nominating committee is presenting.
We hope that the contractor gets started on the fire cleanup this week. It shouldn't take long once they get going. We passed the asbestos tests so that is very good news.
The word is that Yaquina Bay Yacht Club had a successful, though small, Columbus Day Regatta. The Santana fleet was all EYC people and the usual suspects won. They raced out of the South Beach Marina this year and there were no club-sponsored parties. We have long known that Santana sailors like to race in current and rain and big wind. And that they bring their own party.
The EYC schedule is very thin for the rest of the year. Watch the calendar on the website to know what is happening as soon as we do: https://www.eugeneyachtclub.org/calendar/
And I would like to take a moment to thank a couple of people. Rob Moline has taken just about the shortest route to Rear Commodore in our history. He has been terrific on the Board. Thank you Rob! Rich Johnson stepped in to be Commodore again when we had openings because of members moving away for jobs. Rich did a great job as Commodore back in 1998 and did a wonderful job then and again in 2021. He is the first (and I hope last) member to ever serve twice. We are so lucky to have had him.
