Club Manager November 2021

Our second season with the virus has come to an end. And while it was a pain to try to be a social club in a time when social activities are either banned or unwise, we are excited about next year. More and more people are getting the shots and the virus seems to be getting less dangerous. So as we go into our indoor season, please everyone be careful so we can start next year healthy and happy and anxious to get on the water.

We will be setting up next year's calendar pretty much like a standard year. The staff is also in the process of billing everyone for 2022 because our fiscal year starts on November 1. Dues are due! If you have any questions, let me know. Billing for moorage will be done April 1st. We will be putting out a new Handbook in January and an online version in the Members' Area of the website slightly earlier. Please send in changes in your listing in the directory area of the Handbook to me clubmanager@eugeneyachtclub.org or to Jose at mediamanager@eugeneyachtclub.org Remember that the gate code changes on the first of the year.

The Board has decided to declare a moratorium on travel trailer assignments and construction until they can make some improvements in fire prevention. But the cleanup after the fire is progressing and should be done soon.

We encourage everyone to come out to the club during the winter. While the reservoir is emptied to about 6% of its capacity, there is much wildlife. You will always see egrets and herons. Sometimes you will see a bald eagle.

We had our Annual Meeting on October 30 and elected a slightly new Board. Much thanks to Rob Moline for his tenure on the Board. Rob did a great job of steering us through the early part of the pandemic and all that disruption. And as he rotates off the Board we wish him well and hope his mast stays up this year. Rich Johnson has taken a second turn at Commodore and is now Rear Commodore. No one has done it twice before and we are grateful for Rich stepping in to do that. His leadership has been invaluable. Our new Commodore is Matt Sprick from the Wavelength fleet. He will be great. We have a terrific lineup of other officers as well: Stephanie Lunceford, who grew up in the club is now Commodore of Vice, Al Avey is our Secretary, Katie Thomas is our Treasurer, and Mark Forrest and Roeland Kapsenberg are our Trustees. This is a stellar lineup and I am very excited about them.

We began the new work party year on August 1. So we are three months in. Kudos to the Stubblefield family that came down and a couple of weeks ago and became the first to complete all their hours. You have until July 31 to get those 16 hours in. The Port Commission has not scheduled any work parties until after the first of the year but if you want to do some hours, contact them and they can assign you some tasks.

We are negotiating a new ten-year lease with the US Army Corps of Engineers for the land that we use along the waterfront and the water where our docks reside. We renewed the lease with the Bangs family of the land that is our parking lot. So we are in a good place in terms of stability. The budget is good. The membership levels are strong. It is a good time to be Eugene Yacht Club.
