October 2020 Commodore's Corner

Well, this has certainly been an interesting year. Not the way I would have predicted it would go, but sometimes we just we just have to deal with what is handed to us. I think Covid-19 has forced us to do a bit of a reset and to review what is important to us all.

There have been good things that have come out of this year. I have seen new and old members alike come together to work on projects that had been swept under the proverbial rug for many years—only because we’re sailors and sailing is what we’re doing with any spare time we have!

I feel our level of communication and coordination as a club was raised to a new bar this year, too. Port Commission projects with time-slot sign-up lists ensured everyone participating was kept safe. Moving to a mix of virtual and outdoor Board meetings gave us the ability to keep the club functioning. We're now having our monthly membership meetings via Zoom which gives us a way to see each other and keep members up-to-date on what's going on.

I would like to thank all of the volunteers who spent their valuable time helping with the events and affairs of the club this year. To those of you whose events couldn’t proceed as planned, thank you for your flexibility and understanding. I hope that you will all consider hosting your events as planned for Commodore Richard Johnson in 2021.

I have a strong feeling that 2021 will bring back all of the fun and events we had put together for 2020. Plus now we’ll also have a new clubhouse deck, a new multi-hull dock, new floating laser docks, A Dock fingers that float, a new (to us) fleet of Optis for the junior program, possibly a new and a refurbished youth coaching boat, the back 40 all cleared and ready for development, and who knows what else we might yet accomplish.

Thank you all for your support this year.
