November 2022 Commodore's Corner

I joined the Yacht club in 2011, but I’ve been coming to this club my entire life. My grandparents were Ralph and Virgie Batchelor. I grew up spending many a summer weekend out here. Unlike most of my family I did not enjoy sailing as a child. It wasn’t until I was 14, and had come to spend the week lounging by the water, that my grandma woke me up early that Monday morning. “Surprise”. I had been signed up for sail school and I was to do it. I fell in love with sailing that week. A few years later I started crewing Thursday nights and set my dreams on owning a sailboat.

I knew when I had a family that EYC would be a part of it. I am excited to be able to serve the club as Commodore this year. As I look forward to what the next year brings I want to take a moment to thank the last few commodores Rob, Rich, and Matt. We went from a full pandemic to starting to see things open back up and those 3 worked hard to get us through that.  I also want to thank Gary Powell and Bill Boyce for your advice and words of encouragement.

It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks back we were all enjoying the warm weather, sailing, and the club grounds.  The colder weather has fully come in and we have been busy winterizing our boats and putting summer things away till next year.  I hope you all have a great winter and look forward to seeing everyone next year.
